SloWaters has been piloting flood prevention measures on Irish farms and the project’s leader maintains that these measures should now be rolled out at a wider scale.

Pádraic Fogarty from The Irish Times spoke with Dr. Mary Bourke for his article on the case for introducing the beaver (a non-native species) to Irish rivers.
Dr. Bourke advocated for the adoption of low impact nature based solutions in contributing to flood attenuation, from the work on the Slowaters Project.
NBS mimic the work of the beaver without needing to introduce a non-native species to our delicate native ecosystem.

A crisp and clear day greeted The Farmers Journal journalist Noel Bardon’s interview with Dr. Mary Bourke and farmer Patrick Gleeson.
The interview looked at the SloWaters project and low impact nature based solutions could contribute to flood attenuation.

Dr. Mary Bourke and farmer Patrick Gleeson were on hand to show and discuss nature based solutions put in place here from both the Scientific and the farming perspective.
Cool and clear day as over 75 scientists attended Wednesday mornings’ workshop session at SloWaters demonstration site to hear about and see the NBS features on site and their effectiveness and challenges.
