Biography:
I am from a geographer/environmental scientist from Dublin, Ireland. I completed my undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences in 2017 and my M.Sc. in Environmental Science in 2018 (both at Trinity College). Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in geography at TCD with a specific interest in natural flood management practices in peatlands.
Previously, I undertook undergraduate research examining seasonal-scale changes in newly-discovered erosional features on Martian dunes (known as Sand Furrows).
Following this, my attention turned to Natural Flood Management [NFM] during my master’s. This project investigated the viability of introducing an NFM-based flood prevention scheme in a small sub-catchment (˜1km2) of agricultural land in the area of Ballingeary, Co. Cork.
Current (PhD) Research
My current research (2018-2022) aims to investigate the effect of installing drain blocks in upland blanket peatlands on downstream fluvial flow. It is hoped that this project may act as a catalyst for further NFM research in an Irish context.
I am a recipient of the 2018-2022 Provost PhD project award.
